On Sunday, September 12, 2021, at approximately 8:32 p.m., Belton Police were notified about a shooting that occurred on the southbound lanes of Interstate 35. A witness told dispatchers that they heard multiple shots fired at a vehicle, which then went off the roadway near the bridge over the Lampasas River. First responders arrived and located a white Chevy Trailblazer with bullet holes and the driver, a male suffering from a gunshot wound inside. He was flown to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple.
The victim, 32-year-old Antonio Alvidrez, from Euless, Texas, succumbed from his injuries on Monday, September 13, 2021.
